New source for packliners on 07/03/2012 13:40:56 MDT Print View

I came across a great source for light weight and strong pack liners.

I do a lot of shipping and buy packaging peanuts in bulk for $3.99 from “The Container store”. I had used up the last of the peanuts and was about to throw out the bag when it dawned upon me that this would be a fantastic pack liner! It is 32” long and 19 inches wide and weighs in at 1.20 ounces. Perfect! Lighter then a trash compacter bag and see through!

That's a great find, if you have a use for packing peanuts... Still, a great reminder to be looking for repurposing or finding use for that which you already have. I wonder what else you can find in bags like these.

Once upon a time, someone was selling bags just like this in the gear swap forum at 5 for $7.50 (or something like that). I sure wish I could find that post again and see if he still has any... I much prefer these clear ones to the white compactor bags.

Nylofume bags. on 07/03/2012 15:13:04 MDT Print View

Ken, there have been some group buys of odorproof nylofume bags. These are used to put your stuff in when a pest company fumigates your home, so you could check your local pest company. Also:

The ad hoc NyloFume bag sales here have been volunteer efforts, covering just the "Cost" of 100 bags, FedEX, USPS, and envelopes, by whomever was willing to make the purchase and organize the distribution, and abetted by a supportive businessman in Texas who isn't making Anything for his time - he's a fumigator doing us a favor.

I have no problem with anyone stepping up and doing another "Round of 100", but by supporting LiteTrail.com you are assuring a constant and readily available supply of good products. The cost is comparable, the "fit" on the OP bags is better, and you won't have to hope that someone waiting in the wings will save your butt.

IMHO, YMMV, HYOH, Do Good, and all of that.

[No vested interest here, but I did have fun shipping out 300 bags.]

Shipping stores like Fed Ex, UPS, etc. will accept donated packing peanuts. So, even if you didn't want the peanuts, you could buy a pack liner for $4.

That's expensive for one plastic bag, but, if it was marketed as one pack liner, I'd probably buy it. :)

You could purchase Gusseted bags from U LINE for example a 3 mil thick bag 10" wide x 6" deep x20" tall bag is $92.00 for 500 bags that come out to 5.5 cents a bag. Find out how many bags will fit in a 8"10" postal envelope and mail them for the cost of one stamp, Charge $2.00 for example 4 bags and make a profit . Or maybe a small cottage industry pack manufacture could also do this to supplement their new cottage industry income .
I use to order shipping boxes for R/C glider kits I sold from U LINE.

Ziploc Big Bags? on 07/05/2012 20:24:28 MDT Print View

I've been using the Ziploc Grand Sacs XL as a pack liner. I haven't heard them mentioned around here. Is it because they are 2.5oz? They are big, durable and have a ziploc top. They are also pleated at the bottom. If they have been discussed, forgive me....I'm new here.

•XL equivalent to 10 Gallon (37.8L) 2 FT. x 1.7 FT. (60cm x 51 cm)

I guess the bags mentioned in this thread are half the weight though.Ziploc Big Bag

what were the old BPL liners? they were lightweight and plenty stout-albeit a little spendy w/ shipping

Jhaura recently sent me some of his packliners and I have used one on a trip. I like it so far. It is lighter than my MLD liner and slightly bigger. Also, it is made of the same NyloBarrier material that his odor proof bags are made of, so they can double as a odor proof food bag too. He has them for a great price over on his site as well. I will be using these for a while...
