Lion attack nevada county CA on 07/03/2012 08:42:24 MDT Print View

Attacked while in his sleeping bag.

Remember, if you don't act like pray, you won't be bothered. Sounds like this lion has
been dining on burritos at Taco's Jalisco in Truckee often.

Sounds like the cat was curious, perhaps mistaking him for a sleeping deer, and once he started moving, there was an altercation for some time. With all the folks in the woods, hiking, running, sleeping, mountain biking, etc. I'm surprised there aren't more interactions.

Mountain lion attack on 07/03/2012 09:53:01 MDT Print View

According to ABC news, the attack lasted for 1 - 1 1/2 minutes. Hard to say what was going on until we get the lions side of the story but wonder precautions big cat biologists advise?

house cat carcass on 07/03/2012 12:20:15 MDT Print View

They found a house cat carcass nearby that had been taken by the lion. The lions
usually start eating domestic animals then move on to humans. See the book
Beast in the Garden.

Critters like this are one reason I sleep in a tent. The tent may not protect me from the critter but I should get some advance notice, as it checks out the tent, so I can arm myself.

A puma paw on one's head is not much advance notice.

my tent is mountain lion proof ...
and so is the cloaking device I use while running alone in the mountains.
