Heading out on the 4th over Kearsarge Pass, Forester Pass, and Shepherds Pass.
How are the mosquitos? Normally this time of the year they are pretty thick, but since this was a low snow year and we have had access into the backcountry much earlier than normal I am willing to gamble with not taking my bugnet for my tarp.
Also, what are the snow conditions on the passes or lack thereof????

I was a little south of there ten days ago, and despite the dryness, the mozzies came out in force one evening. Further, they stayed on me after sunset. I was too tired to even try to look for my headnet in my pack, so I just laid my bandana over my face and tried to sleep.

Hi Ken - You are likely to run into mosquitos at Anvil Camp, if you decide to camp there. If they are too outrageous, drop down to Mahogany Flats, a mile or so by trail below Anvil Camp. It is drier there and a bit less likely to have mosquiitos at a bothersome level, especially if you camp well away from Shepherd Creek.

I just got out of the area - thought the mosquitoes were rather tame compared to a pervious visit...I used only a bug net, no tarp. Weather was perfect.
