WTB MLD Grace Solo (Or similar) - First time tarp-er - on 06/25/2012 19:02:32 MDT Print View

I'm looking to make the move from a fully enclosed tent to a tarp/bug bivy combo.

Currently I use a TT Rainbow (that I love) but I'm hoping to shed some more weight, get better views and something I can setup/tear down even quicker and easier. I hear all the cool kids use tarps these days.

I'm open to all suggestions, I have a bug phobia so whatever I end up using will need one way or another to keep the bugs out so I intended on trying to find a MLD Grace Solo to combine with something similar to this http://ulgear.blogspot.com/p/bug-bivy.html

Let's see what you all have for sale!

(I also have a brand new MLD Exodus, I bought it here last year and ended up not using it, I'd be willing to talk trades for that.)

Silnylon on 06/25/2012 20:53:09 MDT Print View

Silnylon most likely, I've got a feeling Cuben is going to be out of my price range, especially since this is an initial test.

I believe there are Spinnaker versions of the Grace Solo still around as well, not sure what the price/weight is on those.

Stephen,

I saw your post, and have been close to querying you a few times...but I'm looking for something a little wider, if I don't find it I'll definitely come knocking on your door!

I'll be interested to see what you find/learn in this topic. I'm just getting into the "lighter" style of backpacking...toting around a 4lb fully enclosed 2 person Kelty. I've thought about the hammock/tarp/bivy world, but I'm nervous about it (and the price tag) as well!

I ended up finding someone selling exactly what I was looking for, though its nearly new and I was hoping for used and cheap.

If you're toting that tent for yourself you definitely need to go lighter! I've been using a tarptent rainbow up until now and I couldn't be more pleased with it.
