My friend has been bugging me for the last few summers to take a BC camping trip with him on Assateague. Just an overnight out-and-back.

I'm not too thrilled with the idea, with the heat, sand, bugs, and having to carry all the water.

What do I need to worry about? read: any ideas to lessen the impact of the aforementioned issues, to make the trip somewhat enjoyable?

How about renting canoes from the rental concession inside the park and canoeing to one of the backcountry sites?
