Rain Gear Repair Help Needed on 06/11/2012 17:24:34 MDT Print View

I fell off of my bike yesterday and put a small hole in my eVent rain jacket. I was about to wash it and then put some seam grip on it, but thought I'd ask if anyone had any better ideas. I wear this jacket around town, not just in the mountains, so I'd like the repair to look as inconspicuous as possible. A google search turned up some stuff called Kenyon K Tape that comes in burgundy which is the color of the jacket, but I've never used it before. Should I try this stuff or use seam grip? Any other ideas?

You could sew a bright BPL patch over it.

Didn't realize tenacious tape comes in clear...good idea. But if I could get a Bob Gross fan club patch, that would be even better.

I'm sure that the BPL staff could sell you a BPL patch, plus shipping of course.

I shot an e-mail to Westcomb to see what they have to say. Maybe they have matching peel and stick things, or can send me a fabric swatch, we'll see.

Bob you really do crack me up.

"Bob you really do crack me up."

Maybe you won't be laughing once you see the BPL price.

I had the same kind of spot on my rain jacket, but I sealed it on the inside with some ordinary seam sealer.

BPL prices--too bad we can't get anything BPL at any price anymore.

Sealing from the inside makes sense. On that note, I think the next sil shelter I buy will definitely get sealed from the inside too.

Sew it first on 06/11/2012 21:16:02 MDT Print View

Sew it first before anything else to prevent further tearing.

Personally I'd sew it, glue it with a proper seam sealer and maybe glue a small, subtle, decorative patch on it that you can get at craft stores.

OR have it sewn initally by someone with decorative sewing designs on their machine.
I once had a small burn hole in a favorite shirt repaired with a matching color leaf design. It looked neat (if even noticed).

I also have an eVent parka and dread patching it if it ever got torn.
