Sports Bra Recommendations on 06/08/2012 10:02:55 MDT Print View

Hi all :)

I'm looking to replace my old and well used selection of Jogbra & Champion sports bras with something newer and lighter. The old ones are heavy and seem to soak up a lot of moisture rather than being truly 'wicking', especially on the back where I'm wearing a pack. Then when I take a break or set up camp, my hiking shirts (REI Sahara) dry fast but the bra stays damp, making me cold when I'm not moving around much.

I don't need a vast amount of support, but I definitely prefer sports bras over regular ones for outdoor activities. If anyone has any favourite brands, I'd like to know :)

Haven't tried this for hiking, but for running, I really like the Moving Comfort Juno bra - great for wicking and drying quickly and the best bra I've worn for minimizing chaffing on long runs, since it doesn't hold a lot of moisture against the skin. Also a great fit (minimal boob smashing). Downside for hiking is that it's more supportive than I need for a hike (definitely not an UL bra!). Moving Comfort does have a wide variety of options though, and the website is pretty helpful in figuring out what bras might work best for activity and body type.

For comfort, I like the Patagonia Capilene Mesh bra so far, although I haven't tested it on a backpacking trip yet, so not sure about wicking and moisture performance.

Thanks for the thread - I'm still searching for my perfect hiking bra for comfort and wicking too. Looking forward to hearing other suggestions!

Ibex balance on 06/08/2012 14:31:58 MDT Print View

I've recently caught the merino wool bug, and really like the Ibex balance sports bra. It's very soft and while it doesn't dry as fast as synthetics, it doesn't feel as clammy against the back when wet. It is also on the expensive side around $45, but I think it's a good choice if you don't need a lot of support.

Target's has some nice light weight sports bras now that have a mesh back to them and work just fine. For hiking now, I just use my regular daily bra. I buy a few extra pair just for that. They dry fast enough...maybe a bit damp, but I am not jogging, hopping up and down, etc..but hiking so the support isn't so necessary. I hate sport bras that have no hooked back. By the end of the day I am tired and sweaty and to get one of those darn things off is so difficult sometimes. I used to wear Hanes quick dry bra but I think they stopped making them. Very comfy and for sports.

I get the Danskin ones at Walmart. I don't shop there often, but the 2 dor $10 price can't be beat! Here's a link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Danskin-Now-Women-s-Seamless-Sport-Bras-2-Pack/15540049
