I find the hood on it not usable because it covers my eyes.

Hmm, I haven't had that trouble. Maybe it's because when I use the hood it's usually either over a watch cap or under my regular wide-brimmed hiking hat. Could also be a fit thing--if the garment is a little too big, maybe it can tend to slide up/forward?? Anyway, as with all clothing, try it on first!
