Going to be in that area in July. Any must-see/must-hike/must-camp around there? Red Rocks? Valley of Fire?

TIA!

Umm...

Are you aware of the average temps in July? Probably around 105F and you could see 115F plus. I hike and camp there a lot, even in summer. Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire are great in the summer... few people will be visiting.

Check out Mt Charleston, its an alpine mountain/village, about an hour outside of Lost Wages. I believe there are two possible trails to the peak (North & South loop) can be looped, or in and out.

don't expect to find water.

The temps in Vegas will be 100F, but at the mountain a nice cool 72F

Temps and water on 05/31/2012 15:45:12 MDT Print View

Yup, aware of temps and water issues. 2-3 days max, leading up to a friend's "turning 40" party in Las Vegas. Figured I'm going to be in the area anyways for that, why not try to sneak in a couple days beforehand and see the area? Usually we either fly in, or just drive through ... never really stopped to explore. Trying to remedy that ... :)

Thanks for the information ... will be checking it out!

Any particular thoughts on specific campgrounds or parking spots for access?

Thanks!
