Exped Air Pillow UL on 05/24/2012 09:42:59 MDT Print View

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone used the Exped Air Pillow UL yet? Any comments on it? Is it worth the 1.5oz savings in weight vs the regular air pillow?

Thanks!!
Rick

I have never used the regular Exped pillow, the UL is my preferred pillow and it is better than the Exped Pump pillow. Though YMMV.

I have a medium sized standard Exped Air Pillow and a Large Exped Air Pillow UL. The medium size was just too small for me while side sleeping and shifting. The large is much more comfortable. I was able to get the Large UL version for about $36 bucks when Campsaver had a sale recently. At that price, I was willing to splurge. The fabric defintely feels more fragile than the standard, but I use a fleece shirt as a "pillow case" and I have honestly never slept better in the backcountry. I am using it in conjunction with the new REI stratus sleeping pad. Regardless of which material you go with, I would recommend the large size.

but unsure if worth buying if you have the other. I never had either one. Had just bought the regular exped pillow when I found the UL when looking for reviews of the regular one. So, returned the prev model and got the UL. Fabric noticeably thinner but no effect on comfort.

Easy decision if you have neither- buy the UL of course. Would I spend the extra money to sav 40 grms (95 vs 55, is that right? might be wrong about the regular)? Prob if I could sell the older pillow at a good price.

I have the red Exped pillow and it's great. Not worth saving 1.5 oz to me to go through the hassle of getting a different one. It's great for me anyway.

The yellow UL pillow is nice upgrade if all you have is ccf to sleep on. The design is well thought out and the fabric is soft.
