Ok, I am redoing my sleep system this year with an eye toward less hassle and a need to dry gloves/socks/etc. in a bag at night. So, possibly no more down bags.
I am thinking of paring a SD Volt or TNF Orion (I'm guessing 25-30 degree bags) with down slippers and a good, lightweight down jacket (this is in opposition to my use of down bags with synthetic jackets like the DAS parka).
I am hoping that my body heat will push any moisture in the gear and the down out into the bag where it will dry or not be a big deal.
I want a down jacket with a two-way full zipper to get at my harness, handwarmer pockets, and possibly a helmet compatible hood. The zipper and pockets are more vital, but that hood would be very welcome.
I am looking at the PHD Yukon and Valandre Split-S. Actually, I can't find anything on the Valandre piece aside from what was on this site a few years ago, so any new info would be great. The Yukon looks perfect, being baffled, with a hood and resistant fabric. Very light if stated weight is true... but I remember that PHD's Minimus stuff was a bit understuffed, and I need full baffles to compensate for moisture. Anyone have any PHD stuff that is lofty on the order of WM or Marmot?
Any other suggestions would be great. Also, any info on if I really would have any hope of drying a down jacket at night in a synthetic bag would be helpful. I don't ever get my belay jacket too wet, just a bit of moisture from snow, sweat and ice.
