First Aid kit: wound seal rapid response topical powder 0.25 oz on 05/11/2012 22:20:12 MDT Print View

undecided if this is best for chaff or gear forum, thinking it's first aid kit, so gear?

I was raiding the medicine cabinet at work for single serving first aid stuff.

I found this:
wound seal rapid response topical powder

http://www.zeemedical.com/pages/rapid-response

It goes for a quarter ounce. 0.25 oz

supposedly it's a squeeze tube, but has powder, you pour over a wound, and it's supposed to react with the blood and dry out, sealing a small wound.

I'm still taking the old fashioned bandage stuff, but here is my question to you guys and gals:

does this stuff really work? I am looking for personal experience feedback.

I cannot test it for two reasons:
1) I'm not bleeding right now, and I have a job interview on Monday, so it would be quite dumb to experiment with a razor.
2) If I use the vial, I will have no vial left for my first aid kit.

If you are a US office cubicle dweller, you are probably familiar with ZEE brand or something like it. I can buy online, but I would have to buy the entire office kit.

Anyway, if you have first hand experience, kindly let me know.

A bunch of army medics, love to tell tales of this magic powder that can put together a suicide bomber back from little chunks into one piece. You guys know who you are, please don't don't respond about your army stories.

I am looking specifically for the ZEE brand, from free-range office cubicle prisoners who have used it.

Thank you for your time.

Good luck with the interview. Do they offer insurance?

I put enough dry humor, exagerations and cynicism, I didn't think I'd have to put "just kidding" ok, all you army guys, I'M KIDDING, you can post your experience :)

Actually I'm packing my rig right now for the weekend and procrastinating half way on the checklist. The dog is sniffing my pack. I hope he doesn't bark at 3AM when I sneak out without him.

job interview - yes they will offer insurance, if I get the job. Ironically, they manufacture skin creams and glue! but they are ethical about it, they pollute the chem dump down the rivers in China, and sell it nicely packaged in the US.

paper cuts - oh no! I'm a prissy princess. office life is brutal, it's daily death by a thousand papercuts with a twist of lemon.

Press release, no first hand experience on 05/12/2012 09:57:51 MDT Print View

found a public relations press release

http://www.prlog.org/10736366-woundseal-the-powder-that-stops-bleeding-instantly-now-available-in-canada.html

they reference canadian hockey players and canadian tree loggers as the target group, but also american office workers. funny.

"WoundSeal is a topical powder comprised of a hydrophilic polymer and potassium ferrate." I don't know what this mostly means. hydrophilic=powder loves water.

Another funny thing, I posted this question last night on BPL, and now when I search for this product name on Google, www.backpackinglight.com is a top search result hit, over the actual company that produces it. I'm accidentally promoting the BPL website in least expected keywords :)

Some of these quick clotting agents cause thermal reactions, and can create a 2nd or 3rd degree burn at the wound sure. I wouldn't want a festering burn in the back country.

I would just carry super glue, personally. You can seal up small gashes or punctures. To treat a major wound would require more then a quarter ounce of glue or your stuff - the individual army kit quik clots are I believe 3 or 4 oz packets?

the army now issues guaze with Quik Clot infused into them. they are 3IN X 4YDS and the package(vacuum sealed) only weighs 0.9ozs. It is made by Combat Medical Systems.
