8oz aluminum can for drinks on 05/09/2012 15:57:49 MDT Print View

I'm thinking of getting some of those really small aluminum drink cans, I think they are just under 8oz of fluid content. Cut the inside top off, make a cozy, and have a very small cup for hot drinks. This would fit inside my Caldera Cone that is rolled up inside a cut down 1L plastic bottle.

I could make tea in it easily, but I'd like to make hot chocolate. Question: would stirring the hot chocolate scrap off the thin plastic coating that is on the inside of the can? How fragile is this plastic coating?

Thanks for your thoughts.

"How fragile is this plastic coating?"

Like most things, the answer is: it depends.

Different commercially packed beverages have different corrosive powers on bare aluminum. As a result, the cans are made with different types of coatings.

If you want a smaller aluminum can, you might try V-8 juice. That stuff is acidic, so the cans tend to have a coating.

I don't know but you'll probably be ingesting a good amount of BPA (& who knows what else) since heat causes it to leach in greater amounts.
