Montrail Hardrock Question on 05/02/2012 10:59:41 MDT Print View

I found an old pair of Montrail Hardrock's in my closet that I had forgotten about, and I wonder which version they are. The number on the tongue is "Men's G1107-47." The size is Men's 11 wide. Are these the '07 or '08 version, or something else. They are in very good shape and I'm going to wear them this summer. I wish I had ordered some more before they were discontinued. Even though they are wide's, they fit my D width (as measured on the Brannock device) feet well. I'm wondering what current Montrail shoes would fit like these-if any. Some of the current trail running shoes are too narrow for me despite my having a "normal" D width. C'mon guys, if you are going to offer shoes in one width at least make them wide enough for D.

I don't recall the 07's and 08's being significantly different.
Some changes did start after that.

I think now a days everyone wears paper thin house slippers so they can feel the rocks.

Columbia Sportswear took over Montrail in 2006 (I think) and discontinued the Hardrock a couple of years ago. They told me that the new AT model would be the same, but it isn't--not much structure and far too wide in the heel.

The '07 Hardrock was not affected. The '08 Hardrocks work fine for me but only with added arch supports. The '09s didn't work for me at all--they generally feel like bedroom slippers. I have weird, almost crippled feet (bunions, hammertoes, fallen arches), so need lots of support in my shoes. Please note that I'm talking the women's version here.

I bought up several pair of the '07s and '08s, so I'm good at least through this year. After that, I'll be looking hard for something that will work for me. It will have to have really narrow heels, good arch support and a wide and high toe box.

Moral: if you find the perfect shoe, buy up a bunch of them; the models will change next year!
