Closed Cell Sleeping Pad in ULA Circuit on 04/20/2012 14:33:32 MDT Print View

I was wondering if anyone would like to share their experience using a closed cell sleeping pad stored inside a ULA Circuit. I want to switch to a closed cell pad but want to avoid lashing it externally.

All the best,

Brad

Whats the concern? fold it flat and stick it in there. Now if you want to use it instead of stays, thats a different story. Whether or not it fits depends on your other gear and how much food you have.

I just wanted to know what others had experienced using different pads as not all pads pack the same.

I use inflatables so I am only guessing here...
The Circuit tapers from the top to the bottom (the top is wider) so having the mat (like a blue mat) opened up against the wall may cause you to lose some extra space.
(by not fitting exactly against the wall)
The thinner mats (GG ThinLight) should fit better.
A folding type mat like the Z Lite (R size)is about 8 L in volume so about 20% of the inside of your pack without the extension, but that may rob you of less unusable space .

I use a 3/4 ridgerest in my circuit, and although it does cut down on volume, I don;t mind because (A) it improves compression and carry quite a bit, and (B) I find the circuit has plenty of capacity left for most of my trips. It's always nice to have nothing strapped to the exterior as well. I love my circuit :)

Ive used ridgerest, GG torsolites inside the circuit. Its just a matter of volume of your food and gear. Under 4-5 days food, if you are really UL with a compressible down bag, it should all fit. Because the bottom tapers , folding and putting flat against the back panel works best, you can get the pad all the way to the bottom of the pack.
