Kid's Windshirt? on 04/17/2012 11:16:41 MDT Print View

Looking for a tip on a hooded windshirt sized for a 4 or 5 year old, but haven't been having a ton of luck. Perhaps something will show up at Target this spring or summer, but it's hard to say. I'm looking for something without fleece lining, without insulation, and nothing fancy. Elastic cuffs and handwarmer pockets are also good to have. Hopefully not terribly expensive- not keen on spending $50.

My son is almost four. For pretty much anything outside, we've used a layering combination similar to one a lot of us here do- fleece and a hooded nylon windshirt. He's been using a Circo (Target, IIRC) windshirt we got at a second-hand store- uncoated nylon/polyester shell and a t-shirt cotton liner in the torso and hood. He really prefers wearing this with fleece over the bulky puffy we usually break out for really cold weather. He's able to put on both himself without any assistance, and adjusts zippers to regulate his temperature- just like dad. :) Just like the grown up version, it allows for comfort in a broad temperature range.

Still fits OK now, but it won't be long until we need to get something bigger.

Any ideas?

Cioch Direct will make kids wind pants and jackets on 04/17/2012 12:24:00 MDT Print View

I got my daughter a set of unlined pants and jacket from Cioch Direct. Her jacket is not hooded, but I am sure they would make a hooded version, as well as any other options you want.

It would however go over your budget, so if you find anything stock let me know.

Look in thrift stores for lined jackets (more of them than unlined) and cut out the lining (the lining is usually cotton anyway).
