Lidocaine, Nasal Versed etc... I would hate to see that final bill! Seriously, the ear canal isn't that deep and the offender has no where to go. Just dig in there with the tweezers and pull that sucker out.

And we wonder why out health care costs are through-the-roof. (tongue planted firmly in cheek)

Bug in ear in the jungle. on 04/14/2012 07:49:41 MDT Print View

This happened to me in the Amazon. It's a very odd and unpleasant sensation to have a bug buzzing inside your ear. Fortunately, it wasn't one of the very nasty little wasps that were a problem there -- the wasps killed more people than the snakes.
We got it out by rinsing it out with water.

I was working the night shift many years ago when a similar little guy came into the ER; as I recall they just took him into a dark treatment room and shined a bright light into his ear...the cockroach came out on his own. Maybe the situation on the video was in a hospital less familiar with such inner city problems, or maybe the cockroach just wasn't as cooperative.

I wouldn't advise digging around in the ear with any pointy instruments...too easy to damage the eardrum or inner ear!

Scary thing, especially for kids...... on 04/14/2012 10:44:25 MDT Print View

I've had to deal with this a couple of times at work. Its a frightening feeling having an insect in your ear moving around, regardless of whether or not it can do any physical harm. Every adult I've seen with this has been freaked out, and its been just that much worse with children.
