Anyone tried the convertible pants? Its time for a new pair for me. I just realized the pants I normally take weigh 1lb 4oz. eek.

Thanks for the heads' up.

Andrew, I just bought the Sisikyou non-convertible pants. They have five pockets and are a more straight cut at the bottom of the leg, if that is the correct pants term. I got them in the tan (latte) color and am happy with them.

I also thought it should be noted: if you've very recently purchased apparel from them, they will refund the difference. I talked through chat to their customer service today and just made the case of: I'd save money by returning everything I bought and having you process that, then order it new and have you reship it. As a plea for sanity, I suggested they just refund the difference, which they did.

Saved $21.30, woohoo!

I purchased a SL3 set less than a month ago. Even though the individuals pieces are out of stock for the current sale do you think they would refund me the difference? It's like $102 in savings. Wow.

Edit: My requests was denied...was worth a try lol

I find it extremely disturbing that people buy an item, then later when there is a sale, they request the difference as a refund...I do not see anything ethical about this at all...or am I missing something in the Land of Oz?

You can always ask. The worst they can say is no. It's much more ethical then returning things to REI just because you don't need it anymore, or a better product came along...

I can see how it could be looked down on if it was a few months down the road. I made my purchase just about 3 weeks before they marked the items for clearance, I feel I am entitled for a refund. Any ways, how is it any different than infinite REI returns?

Edited for spelling

Agreed. All you are doing by taking advantage of the company like this is having them pass on the cost to everyone else. Bad juju IMO.

Return policy on 04/15/2012 23:40:33 MDT Print View

Per GoLite's FAQs: "We want you to be completely satisfied with your GoLite purchase which is why you can return any purchase to us for a full refund providing that the tags are on it and it is unused. If it has been lightly worn or the tags are missing, we can still take it back and give you a credit on your GoLite account. This credit can be used towards any future GoLite purchase."

Emil - if your SL3 was unused, with tags still attached, then you'd be entitled to return it to Golite for a full refund. If used or tags removed, it's their decision on what kind of credit to provide.

Personally, I've found GoLite's customer service to be inconsistent. When the new direct business model was launched just 6 weeks ago they said there would be no more large scale clearance/ warehouse sales, yet here we are. Products that - back in January and February - were out of stock, nowhere in their distribution channels, discontinued, and (as I was told) would not be manufactured again are miraculously available again in their clearance closet. That doesn't sit well with me. As a local company to me, I'd like to give them my business. But this inconsistency means I don't trust them right now. It's your call on whether you think GoLite is a company worth doing business with again.

Many companies publicly state they match their own prices within a given time window (often 30 or 60 days).

GoLite may also figure by giving a partial refund (price matching), they'll make even more money from future purchases in part because of their good will gesture.

The BPL morals police have been out in force lately. I think some of it is warranted, but other times it's getting to be too much. IMO, by all means question folks and open up a discussion, but trying to force one's own moral code onto others about getting a deal on gear does little good.

Stuart - I agree that GoLite's new direct business model in regard to inventory and clearance is a bit funny. I practiced pitching the tent twice in the yard, that is all. If the items were in stock they would have refunded the difference no questions asked. Since they were not, I did not have a leg to stand.

I was told that the individual tent components were being held on to for future warranty issues and that the company had decided to get rid of them at clearance prices. I would not be surprised if they showed up back in stock in the very near future.

Also, I do not feel like I'm taking advantage of anything by attempting to get a refund for the difference. The majority of businesses offer price matching or refunds up to 30 or 60 days after purchase. It creates and maintains loyal customers.
