With the current financial climate, a lot of people have fallen on hard times. Raising money to feed the homeless is fantastic. I wish you well on your hike.

One think I'd like to say is about your timeline. 6 months will have you hiking in snow within the state of Washington. The average PCT hiker takes around 4 1/2 months and finishes up around mid-September; right before the heavy snowfall begins. You will probably be leaving the trail early if you shoot for a 6 month hike. You don't want to be on the trail when the snow starts.
