Strange, but it looks like the vestibule does not have any doorway access. Since it's a "double d" door it seems the doors are on the side and based off their diagrams this puts the small vestibule between doors. So in a storm you would have to exit the shelter, take down the vestibule, access your gear, then again erect the vestibule.

I must be reading things wrong. Maybe the diagrams of the bodies is oriented 90 degrees from what I would expect.

Actually, if you scroll over the pic on the home page for tents, it lists the weight. 10lbs, 15oz.

This is the tent fully sealed up :
Katabatic closed
This is the inner :
Katabatic inner

just like any other tent of that design, to access the vestibule you open the door of the inner .
But maybe I did not understand your point...

Thanks, I figured it out too.

For some reason it seemed like the fly was rotated 90 degrees from the inner. If you look at slide 7 on the link in the OP the way the diagram is drawn is a bit weird. They market the benefits of a "Double-D door design for easy entry/exit/access to vestibule storage areas." So I got confused. Your pictures side by side clears up my confusion.

Must be a brain fog day for me =)

Yea, this stuff has been pictured in their catalogs but is just going up for sale I guess.

Also check out their "expedition" line of sleeping bags. Pertex endurance shell ans 850 fill: http://www.eddiebauer.com/EB/Bags--Gear/Camping/Sleeping-Bags/index.cat

Looks like they have synthetic bags with Apex as well.

A 2-man pop-up with a throw-over fly, weighing 11 lb. Oh great.

Cheers

To be fair, this is an expedition rated tent. Still, that's heavy.

I bought the Black Diamond StormTrack 2 for mountaineering trips. It was really roomy, and at 7lb, felt more storm resistant than a UL alpine tent would be. It would be hard to justify an 11lb tent to me.

I think the First Ascent tent is trying to compete with the North Face VE-25, which appears to be "the" standard expedition tent by which most others are compared.
