x's on the gear on 03/31/2012 04:36:01 MDT Print View

Does the x on some of your gear for sale indicate it was purchased at an REI garage sale super cheap?

They are discount but not necessarily cheap. Some times you find really great deals. I go for the stuff people return because sleeping bag was not warm enough or tent to small etc...

cheap gear. on 03/31/2012 10:21:50 MDT Print View

They sell it for pennies in the dollar. I worked there a while. $200 boots sold for $35. Prices were set at a certain percentage of the retail price. Not trying to hurt your sales, but those x items may be priced way too high.....considering what you probably paid for them.

No thanks watch is worth way more than that... I am offering these items for a fair price. I will sell on eBay if I have to but choose to post here for reasonable prices. If you don't believe it's fair pricing you don't have to purchase or comment.

A fair price if they weren't bought for half of what you are asking for.

If you don't like the price, don't buy it. The market will bear what something is worth. You have no idea what he paid for it...so don't assume that you do. Even if he did pay way less than what he's asking...why do you care? If you don't like the idea of him making a few bucks on the items, don't buy them. If someone else doesn't care and feels like they're getting a good deal, then they'll buy them. Meanwhile, you can (and should) just go about your own business.

Except that he is trying to hide the fact that they were bought on major discount and he's selling for a profit.

"hated the design of this sleeping bag" yea but it was listed cheap and he could sell it higher

people like that ruin the garage sales for people who actually want to get gear for their own use.

ps: anyone can comment on anything they choose. Take it to fleabay if you don't like it.

x on 03/31/2012 20:31:43 MDT Print View

Those items marked with a x have no warranty. All retailers know how REI operates and will not assist. Honesty and integrity is the most crucial of characteristics. I'd think 'packers would rate at the highest of any group of people.

I wish we would cut back on the policing on BPL by members. Monitoring for obvious scams is helpful, but this case as well as many others lately, don't seem to warrant a finger pointing. Maybe someone could have just asked if indeed the items have an X on them, asked about it, possibly pointed out what the issues could be.... without the accusations.

I mean all I did was throw out an offer. He could have answered, sorry that's too low and then ended it. But then he had to throw in his 2 cents about people saying his prices were too high.

The people who buy and sell stuff on here aren't retarded. We all know what the X means.

X on 03/31/2012 21:10:24 MDT Print View

I've bought several things on here that have been marked with the garage sale x. I'm sure the seller made some money on them. But, I could care less...the only thing I'm concerned with is whether the asking price is fair and that it arrives in the condition stated (they were all advertised as having the X prior to purchasing, just as with this seller). Hell, I"m GLAD the seller made a few bucks. AND I feel like I got a good deal. Win-Win.

I work just a few blocks from the REI flagship store. If marking up X items is fair game, I might be able to quit my day job.

Edit: to be clear I don't care one way or the other what you post, caveat emptor I say. Just sayin, if profit on REI garage sale is fair game, I'm in biz lol

Wow on 03/31/2012 21:38:44 MDT Print View

Wow didn't know my post would cause so much drama... Anyways I will only say a few things about everything. I am reselling items because like I said I'm trying to find the right stuff for my pack. Some items were purchased from Rei sales, and like previously stated I only purchased the items that had descriptions like item not warm enough etc.. So these items are just plain returns from people that only used it once or didn't like the item. I have fairly priced the items. Not all listed above is a Rei sale item. So please do not ASSUME that, only items listed with X has them. I am not trying to scam anyone on this forum. If you have issues or concerns please go look at my eBay account. I do resell items that I don't need or some items that I find that I can make money on. You have to fund an Ultralight pack project somehow. This has nothing to do with integrity or anything you say I do not have. If you found DVDs for $2 at a garage sale and had a friend that wanted to pay 10 for it you would sell it for that price so please don't try and accuse me of being in the wrong. As far as I know every business purchases items as a cost value and sells it for a higher price.

I'm not listing these items at outrageous prices nor will I be disrespected by low ball offers. If you like the price then purchase if not thanks for looking. I am very fortunate to be able to get these items and I felt I would benefit people here by selling items that I didn't need versus just throwing them on eBay. I feel that items that I once treasured could be of use to someone else.

These ultralight projects are trial and error from what I know, some things work and somethings don't so I have to clear out things to make my project work. If you have further issues please pm me. I will gladly remove the listing if the majority feels this listing is unfair. I'm here just like everyone else, to obtain the gear that's best fit for me and to get rid of things that have not work.

Thank you for your time if you have any question about anything please let me know

So you're a business now too, or not. Which is it?

Quit bagging on a fella trying to sell some gear. Someone who is giving the bpl community first dibs over the worldwide fleabay...then he just gets pummeled by the morally superior.
If you found it in the street, I'm not gonna deride you for not "passing along the savings..." but would happily put money in your pocket for something I could use, that you could not.

Like previously mentioned, don't buy it if you don't like it.

BPL Gear Swap is for business on 04/01/2012 12:28:54 MDT Print View

Come on guys, this was discussed already. It's okay for businesses to sell on Gear Swap so long as they don't claim they're actually a business, and pay for membership of course. They don't even have to participate in any other part of BPL.
