Zpacks Hexadome prototype on 03/21/2012 14:38:34 MDT Print View

I can't resist posting this, I just googled zpacks dome tent and I got a link this page. I guess it is still a work in progress since I don't see any links to it anywhere on his live site.

Are the poles only held in place at the peak and ends?

Pole Material for Zpacks Hexadome Prototype on 03/21/2012 15:56:52 MDT Print View

It says the two poles are 4 oz each. Anyone know if these weights are for Al or CF?

I believe that is the weight of the carbon fiber poles.

Zpacks dome on 03/21/2012 20:17:48 MDT Print View

Thanks for posting that! Was wondering what it would be since someone posted Zpacks had a dome in the works. Looks good. The cinch down awning seems like such an obvious solution - yet nobody else has done it.
Will just have to be patient until the details come out on the site - wondering about the extent of bug protection.
To dredge up over $500 or spend another month in the workshop. Decisions, decisions.
Does it come in a stealthy green?

Went looking on 03/21/2012 22:21:22 MDT Print View

for this a week or two ago. But went to the website, didn't Google it. Glad somebody found it. Tent is pretty awesome. Hopefully they will make a two-person shelter as well. But very nice solo shelter for those looking for a freestanding option. I like it.

That's a sweet looking tent with what appears to be plenty of room. Congrats Joe you did it again.

The dome tent is a work in progress. The project has been back-burnered for now as I try to keep up with spring orders.

It will likely get some changes if it does ever become a "listed" item.

Glad some of you like the prototype!

Joe

That's a great looking prototype. I'd encourage you to get it off the backburner and into production. It looks like a great option for a very light-weight 2 person dome. I'm ready to buy!

I have worked on a similar project, but uniquely different, for the past year or more. My project, the "Alpine Tarp", is more similar in shape/design to a mid then a dome and support is provided by the use of trekking poles.

Seriously Joe?! More options?!
I too would like to see this in production. Seems like this would be the lightest freestanding option out there?
Would be interesting to get some user reports comparing it to the hexamids.

P.S. Sounds like you need another seamstress/seamster so you can spend more time on R&D.

Wow Joe! Inspirational.
I too would like to see this one (or some refined version of this) come to market (albeit in a slightly wider true 2 person version).
