OK I can't hold off on this any more. I've been wanting to start this for a bit.

Apologies to Ken :)

Gotta pass this song on any y'all are the only friends I got. (big surprise, huh? LOL)

Its a metal song, but its not all noodley and there isn't really any shredding (really there's not even a guitar solo)
Its just super solid, heavy groove. The quote that was the inspiration for the song and the lyrics are included in the video.

Sorry for the cut/paste- I've seen y'all write how to make a link but I don't get it.

If you think you may like it- check it out.

Thank you for your patronage.

GOJIRA by far is my favorite metal band right now, they craft sound that is relentless, crushing, brutal, love it!

Gojira "Toxic Garbage Island"

Mysterious form, soul in the dark
Under this heavy sealing concrete waves
Followed by servants, funeral cort├Ęge
This pale ghost is gathering his strength

Ghost, pale, the procession is crawling

Plastic form dead things, it is now so clear
How could I fail to understand
Cities are burning, the trees are dying
My heart awake but still
Pain is killing me, pain is killing me

Take this pestilent destruction out of my way
The great pacific garbage patch is exhausted
And the world is sliding away in a vortex of floating refuse
With the sacred one you have lost

Plastic bag in the sea
Plastic bag in the sea
Plastic bag in the sea
Plastic bag in the sea

Ahh yes! Thank you, Eugene. That song is tight. Never listened to Gojira. I will now.

I kinda started with an 'accessible' Meshuggah song. Its easy to scare people away... but you upped the ante: \m/

Yeah man Gojira is pretty badass. At times they remind me of Lamb of God (not just the song w/ Randy) and Im not a huge fan of melodic singing, but they only did it for a minute.

BUT the crazy noises in the background are pretty trippy. I swear i heard castanets or something.

Totally, Gojira throws in a lot of textural elements in many of their songs, especially in the last album. Listen for the strange rhythms and instrumental pieces throughout the entire "The Way of All Flesh" album. They can crawl along and just pound your ears with slow/heavy rhythms for minutes then change up and blast out the rest of the song. Gojira is hard to nail down, love their music. The chugging/ finger slide patterns never get old.

Grew up in the 80s so I'm a metalhead, too. Not into the hair stuff though - never figured out that trend. Never got into death, grind, and core much either as I prefer to understand the lyrics and sing along. Nowadays though I only listen to Christian bands. Theocracy is one of my favorites if you like progressive metal.

Craig mentioned Sleep. The singer/ guitarist from that band is doing double duty in this band, High On Fire. They're amazing. Much faster, more angular than Sleep who I also like a lot.

High on Fire is sick.

Let's go a little more old school now...

This song was on when I broke my wrist pool skating two summers ago...The album South of Heaven never fails in pumping me up to go hard (or stupid).
