Fiberglass for Alcohol stove on 03/14/2012 15:16:09 MDT Print View

Been looking around for a way to hold my fostes pot without burning the crap out of my hand. Also keep forgeting my synth gloves don't do to well with the heat.

I've seen and read people using fiberglass. Is this Fiberglass primer wick stuff it

Hi Mark,
Yeah that's it. It attaches onto your pot with crazy glue or loctite. Some people have stated that it sheds fiberglass "hairs" that have gotten caught in peoples eyes, etc. I've been using it for many many years without any ill consequence, but it's still a good idea to handle with care.

I have it wrapped around the outside of my heineken pot, tied and held in place by tension- no glue. that way in a pinch it serves double duty as an extra 10' of cordage.

I got mine for McMaster Carr part no. http://www.mcmaster.com/#8818K41

Dunno what source end up cheaper - mcmster doesn't normally estimate shipping, you find out after it's been billed to your card.

Thanks. Any idea how much I need to wrap a Heineken Keg can so that it is cool to the touch?

I'm just recalling off memory- it was a lot of years ago, but I think I used 10'.

Tinny hand instructions on his old website how to tie and and tension it. It's really easy to do, kinda hard to explain.

If you are concerned about the fiberglass fibers you can use carbon felt to wrap it:

My pellet stove and NG stove at home both use a high temp gasket that is sticky one one side. I wonder if that might work? Not sure how well it will hold up but I'll stick some on a can and see if it looks like it might work.
