Raingear for Denali on 03/12/2012 21:47:58 MDT Print View

What sort of raingear should I bring for a backpacking trip to Denali in the summer/fall months? I've heard that bushwhacking through stands of tall alder is not unusual. Would superlight rain gear such as the Golite Malpais rain jacket and Golite Tumalo Pertex pants suffice?

I also own some slightly heavier rain gear (Arc'teryx Alpha SG rain jacket and Arc'teryx Beta AR pants). Would the Arc'teryx gear stand up to bushwhacking?

I suspect the Arcteryx stuff would hold up fine assuming its not Paclite (not familiar with the SG model offhand, but I think it's the precursor to the current SV)

If you're interested I'm selling a Wild Things shell in the FS forum. That coat is pretty robust. And will breathe better given that it's an eVent shell.

There is not much bush-whacking in Denali, either you will be walking up rivers, glaciers, or on Tundra. There are no trails so you can bypass all trees easy. Lightweight rain gear works fine.
