Full Skin Out.....of ALL my gear on 02/29/2012 21:19:31 MST Print View

I've been entering all my gear in the Gram Weenie iPhone app, and it has allowed me to easily find out how much ALL of my gear weighs. This is relatively easy because I don't have too many items that overlap (like 200 alcohol stoves, or 12 packs, or 8 shelters).

Not including consumables (yeah, yeah, that technically is in FSO, but whatever) all the gear I own, which includes a full packrafting setup w/wetsuit and temps down to 15*F....

46.15 pounds.

Not too shabby considering that's well within the norm for traditional weights.

Anyone else know their TOTAL gear weight?

Total weight of all my gear pieces comes to 30.3 lbs. (29.3 if I can ever sell my First Need purifier).

Oh wow. I might have to check this out...considering I own a North Face Mountain 25, a 0 degree Marmot Couloir (size long), 3 different stoves, 3 different cook sets, and I don't even want to think about my climbing stuff. Eessh.

Ha!

Since I have most of the gear I have purchased since the 60's probably quickest to measure the cubic feet of storage space.

"measure the cubic feet of storage space"

Or maybe acres of warehouses.

Gear Grams library total on 03/01/2012 01:54:40 MST Print View

For those of you that use geargrams, there is a total weight for your entire library. Mine is 36.4 pounds, and that is including my wife's gear too.

This includes:

6 backpacks
4 sleeping bags
5 sleeping mats
3 tarps
2 tents
3 stoves
3 pots

Though I don't ever weigh clothing worn, just any layers packed, so not that much of my clothing is listed in the library.

Nick, I suggest we call the Army Corps of Engineers for this... :)

I have embarked on a serious minimalistic attempt.
Last week I sold cheaply one of my beloved tents so now I am down to 35 lbs total.
Impressive , isn't it ?

only 46 lbs? on 03/02/2012 19:10:31 MST Print View

Travis, you obviously do not have enough gear to qualify as a true gearhead.

I don't know about Ben but having done the tents I am not looking forward weighing the rest of my gear.
however shifting tents around I found another mat that I forgot I had...

"What does that say about Ben and Franco?"

I think Franco's figure ONLY includes his tents. He has yet to weigh all the rest of his stuff! Franco wrote above, "but having done the tents I am not looking forward weighing the rest of my gear"!!

I am a gear head alright, although much less of one than in years past. What I am actually is a minimalist gear head. What that means is -- pretty much every time I buy a piece of gear, I'll sell whichever piece has been replaced. Hate clutter.

FSO complete on 03/07/2012 12:18:00 MST Print View

Let's just say that about 1/2 of my garage is camping or other outdoor gear for the family. A sampling:

12 mattresses
11 pair skis
10 tents
9 packs
8 sleeping bags
7 stoves
6 pair crampons or microspikes
5 pair snowshoes
4 pot sets
3 rafts or floats
2 kayaks
1 pop-up camping trailer

Let's just round up and say 2 tonnes total.

Jim W. - you forgot the partridge in a pear tree. Am I the only one who caught this?
