Zimmerbuilt Halfpack 2.6 - Fully Cuben on 02/26/2012 10:40:08 MST Print View

Hey All,

I received my new Halfpack dubbed the "2.6" from Chris Zimmer yesterday. Unfortunately, I was coaching a high school wrestling state tournament so didn't get to play with it until today. Pulled it out as soon as I was up this morning though.

Chris definitely makes a quality pack, certainly nothing flimsy about it. The pack in total weighed 334g (11.78 oz.) This includes two cuben hip belt pockets and the harness. The pack itself weighed 180g (6.35 oz.), the harness 101g (3.56 oz.) and the hip belt pockets were 26g and 27g (.92 and .95 ozs. respectively).

It felt pretty nice with what I plan on using for my SUL trips (may be cutting some weight when I finally get my IX quilts ready for my summer hammock camping) so I felt comfortable with removing some extras.

I cut all the excess straps off and removed two cordlocks on the side pockets as I'll only need the two closest. I also removed the four clips that help to hold the hip belt pockets in place. That being said, the updated weights are as follows:
Pack - 162g. (5.71 oz.)
Harness - 80g (2.82 oz.)
Pockets - 20g (0.71 oz.)

This is a weight savings of 52g or 1.83 oz. My guess is that with my SUL weights, I'll be able to only care the pack without the additional harness. Definitely excited to put this to use - for now it will be my emergency bag for when my wife goes into labor.Back side showing the hip belt and harnessSide view showing pockets and the cordlock I removedSide/Front View

I never realized that the harness was removable. I always was interested in a lumbar type pack or something like that. Any idea if the quoted 1200ci is just the main pack volume or including all the pockets?

I'd also be interested in seeing pictures of it worn (when you get time).

Very nice! It's been fun to see Chris evolve the design for this from the first one. This one really looks dialed in!

I'm not sure if the 1200ci includes the pockets or not, however, I can tell you that it would not include the hipbelt pockets as those were extra. The main pocket is actually quite large.

Yes, Doug, he has definitely dialed it in. I think yours had more buckles on it e.g. where the harness connects to the back of the pack (against your back) and where the straps connect to the hip belt wing. I will be adding a couple of buckles to save grams on the straps and against my back so i can use one of the straps to house my rain gear or tarp if I so choose.
