Has anyone ever fashioned a spinning reel to a hiking pole for backcountry fishing? Any thoughts or ideas on this?

I have never done tried it, but I don't think it would work out that great... the trekking pole would allow you to cast, but it would hardly have any shock absorption and I think you would run a good chance of breaking the line or the fish shaking loose.

I have seen videos of people fashioning a pretty nifty fishing rod out of a stick and some eye-bolts for guides, I think that might take a few minutes to build, but might work better than a treking pole. Post whatever you come up with though, it's an interesting idea.

oh wow, TiGoat has expanded their line up of tenkara attachments to the old Ti APGs to convert walking staffs into tenkara rods. also have one forthe gossamer staff. Site for staffs now rutalocura as noted above. great idea grown bigger. as per above, link : http://www.rutalocura.com/Tenkara.html.

It works and is durable, but I still prefer and carry a proper rod instead, because I'll only walk to get to a fishing spot, not walking for walking sake with a possibility of added fishing as an option if opportunity presents.
