Patagonia Das Parka: Polarguard vs Primaloft on 02/14/2012 10:08:47 MST Print View

I am looking to replace my old das Parka with Polarguard insulation. I see the new ones with the latest Primaloft insulation are on sale.

Does anyone know if Primaloft packs smaller, more compactly than Polarguard? or is lighter?

I know that das Parka is not ultra light gear but it does the job above treeline when I take it out of my pack. My main complaint is that it takes up so much room in my pack.

Primaloft= overall better, but less durable on 02/14/2012 18:24:16 MST Print View

The new Primaloft ones are warmer, WAY more packable and much lighter than the polar guard ones

Primaloft is awesome ! on 02/14/2012 19:17:01 MST Print View

I finally got a couple of jackets with primaloft (Patagonia Nano Puff and REI Salix). I am a huge fan now. It is extremely warm. IMO, better than any other synthetic insulation I've had.

ditto but on 02/14/2012 19:39:04 MST Print View

I've had my fair share of Primaloft (One, LM, Sport) and other Synthetics, and I must say that PL One is the warmest. Coreloft (by Arcteryc) is a close 2nd though.
