Received my pot stands today. Very nice! I think the height is perfect. I asked for a stand that would work with my Gram Weenie Pro and 5.35" diameter pot. The rods are 3 7/8" long and 1 7/8" high. Weight is 12.3g with silicone connectors and 12.6g with aluminum connectors. If this were eBay I'd give you positive feedback and AAAAAAAAAA++++++++++ Thanks Gary!

Thanks so much for your positive feedback, Dan. I hope it works well for you in the field. I like to make these to peoples' specific needs--each one is a bit different.

Anybody else pining for an ultralight pot stand? I've still got a bunch of titanium rods and connector material, and plenty of free time. That is, until the snow finally melts around here, and I can spend my nights on the road and in the mountains and canyons.

By the way, these pot stands also make great X-mas tree decorations, a gift for the boss that already has everything, and a display stand for a dyed goose egg at Easter...

Order yours now, before I lose interest and find something else to geek out over.

Titanium pot supports work great on 03/25/2012 19:04:20 MDT Print View

These supports are a great bargain. They are ultralight, stable, and fold up very small for easy packing. I'm now using a set with brass connectors, an IMUSA cup, and Esbit cubes.

Thanks for you input, Jon. Yes, they do work. It's fun to make them for you guys & gals, and it's especially fun to get feedback on how you like them. Please, everyone, let me know how they are working out for you, good or not so good. I still have a bit of .09" ti rod left, and plenty of .062", so if anyone else wants one, let me know.

Glad you like it, Barry. And of course, a man can't have too many pot supports, can he? I'll head down to the war room and make you another, to the specs you indicated. Boil away!

Sorry for the late feedback on my Zia Ti Pot Stand. Gary was kind enough to make me a new one stand (FREE of charge, no less!) after realizing that the used stand I got from Sam was actually made for a different application. The new stand is taller to be more efficient and wider to be more stable for my Ti pot.

I've gotta say that I really like how compact the stand is. Pull one leg out of the connectors and it folds up nicely to fit into my pot, along with fuel tablets, lighter, and the bottom of a Red Bull can that is used to hold the tablet (keeping the tablet off the ground and concave surface holds the liquid as the tablet melts to get more complete burning).

My son & I tried it out on the porch and were pretty bappy with the performance. I need to get a better windscreen since any breeze negatively affected the position and performance of the flame.

Zia Ti Pot Stand

Thanks Gary!

Now you got the right one, baby! Thanks for the feedback, Tom--it looks like we hit a bulls-eye with the new one. How are you liking Esbit so far? With a good wind screen, you'll have the lightest setup for boiling 2 C. of water. I've come to like the Zia suppport/Red Bull can approach better than a ti wing stove. It's a tad lighter, and you can get the optimal tab-to-pot distance (I think wing stoves place the tab too close to the pot). Happy boiling, Tom!

@ Barry, Darren, and Richard--I mailed your pot supports this afternoon. Hopefully they'll get to you by the weekend.

Those supports finished off the last of my .09" rod. I still have scads of the .062" rod available, and plenty of connector material. This rod works well for a height up to 2.5", for supporting a 2 cup boil. A taller pot stand supporting a greater weight tends to be pretty unstable with this diameter rod. If anyone else wants to try the lighter version, send me an e-mail. I'm trying to get more .09" or .10" rod, but it's not a common diameter, and it's hard to find.

My thanks go out to everyone that bought these pot stands. It has been a fun project for me, and I hope they work well for you. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

I think the Esbit and Zia combination will become my solo kit. I was playing with homemade screeens after seeing Andrew Skurka's windscreen that he made from folded Al foil. It could also be a great backup with longer, larger group trips.

I agree with your distance comment.

Making these yourself is easy, but hard to get just right. These are just right. Plus the materials used are top notch and Gary is a super nice guy! Thanks!

Gary,

Just another shout out for your great stands. Per our emails, I had been playing with pot heights and I cut the first stand you sent me down a bit too short (1.5" legs).

BUT...

With an additional bend in each side to allow it to fit into the Emberlit EL-Mini wood stove (and act as a stove stand), the stand effectively allow me to use this as a three fuel stove (wood, alcohol or esbit). Weight with Emberlit EL-Mini, Ti wind screen, Zia stand, and MBD mini-atomic is 6.1oz, or 9.7oz with the Evernew 900mL pot.

Tested this morning (pics were before the burns, hence the shiny new appearance).

El-Mini

EL-Mini alc You can see the stand under the MBD mini-atomic.

El-Mini esbit MBD mini-atomic flipped over and used as esbit tray.

3 fuels, 3 boils. Worked well. Should add versatility to the wood stove if needed.

That is very imaginative, Brian, and also quite cool. You are a natural titanium bender, it appears. Thanks for sharing the photos. Good work!
