Watch out for falling trees in Washington's Pasayten Wilderness.

We've had about 10 years of fires in the Pasayten Wilderness and a lot of the burned trees are at the stage where they will fall without warning, even with light or no wind.

On two separate days hiking in the area I saw/heard 6 trees fall each day.

My wife was with me on the last trip. I was looking for a safe place to pitch the tent. She said I worried too much and she wanted to pitch it near the fire. Within a few minutes a large tree fell with a thunderous crash. She quickly changed her attitude.

It is going to be scary this year here on the west side - so many trees snapped due to the freeze. Going to be nasty when they finish falling!!
