Do not purchase a Clikstand through Campsaver.com on 01/27/2012 13:41:21 MST Print View

I've had a stainless steel clikstand for a while and love it. I recently purchased a titanium clickstand and windscreen from campsaver.com and it arrived damaged. The manager over there, Brandon Robbins, told me that it will still work even though it is all bent out of shape. This is true would be fine if I was buying used gear...but when paying for a new item I kind of expect it to be undamaged and it's rather annoying to balance a septagon on the clikstand instead of a nice circle.

Anyway just wanted to give a warning about purchasing though campsaver...I've bought a lot of things from them before and they've been great but now they've lost a customer.

I still highly recommend the clikstand and it might be better just to go through the company itself to procure one.

I'll post a pic of the damaged later tonight when I get back home.

What?! Dude, that totally sucks. If you paid by credit card, you may still have some recourse. Call your credit card company and complain.

no worries on 01/27/2012 14:46:35 MST Print View

It was a gift so it's not my credit card. I have already issued a complaint with the Better Business Bureau....so I'm not really worried about it. I just want to make sure no one else has to deal with the same issue. Hopefully campsaver.com will make some changes to their packing procedure so they will not send out anymore damaged clikstands.

It looks like it has been a few months since his last post but I'll give it a try...it will also be more useful to see just how bent the windscreen ended up. It doesn't stay together as it should because it doesn't apply pressure on the two notches as it is not longer a circle.

Here's how it came:campCS1

Here's how it sits on the clikstand:campsavCS2

And trying to rotate it:campsavCS3

Apparently this is not considered damaged or defective as I can just "bend it back into shape." according to the chat person "Mike" and the manager I mentioned earlier. Granted they didn't see these photos but they did not seem interested in hearing about the problem either.

Return It? on 01/27/2012 20:41:06 MST Print View

Why don't you just return it?

This way you take away their business and if you mention that to their customer service people they will generally be more responsive as customer service generally seems to mean to the minimum amount necessary to stop the customer from returning goods.

By keeping the item you essentially reward camp saver.

(as an aside I have never had any issues with campsaver though I have never dealt with their customer service and my comments relate to customer service agents in general rather than a specific experience with camp saver.)

return on 01/27/2012 21:10:37 MST Print View

It will be returned but they had quite an attitude in the chat and want me to pay for shipping (again) for the item. I disagree that the customer should be charged for being sent mispacked or damaged goods. The fact that this would be the second return (they sent me a stainless steel instead of titanium windscreen the first time as this is a gift from my brother) I have little sympathy for their customer support team. So I have filed a complaint with the BBB to see if they will cover the shipping costs and hopefully they will get it right the third time. The actual cost of replacing the windscreen (~23 if I order from clikstand.com) is quite minor...it's just how they are handling the matter. As I mentioned before I have spent a lot of money with them previously with absolutely no complaints until I dealt with "Mike" today.

Ti version on 01/27/2012 23:04:40 MST Print View

Yeah that's the TI windscreen. I should mention that it hold it's shape quite well and should normally be resilient to damage...unless you squish it in a box overstuffed with packing paper.

Update on 01/30/2012 10:41:44 MST Print View

Andy Stroman took care of the issue I had with campsaver and I would like to rescind my previous objections. It seems like I just had a bad customer service rep...or at least he was having a bad day.
