Re: Jetboil Bad Igniters? on 01/31/2012 15:57:18 MST Print View

Failure of the igniter does not put the stove into doorstop mode. If the stove were to completely fail (or you run out of fuel), the pot (without cozy) can be used over a wood fire. Three rocks as pot support and you're good to go. Petrol, Kerosene, or alcohol stoves do have the advantage that if the stove fails the fuel still makes a good fire starter for wet wood. Canister fuel not so much.

yes one good reason for getting the Ti pot on 01/31/2012 16:55:58 MST Print View

I was reading up on the Trail Designs Tri-Ti. Apparently a wood stove will melt Alu but not steel or Ti so a fallback with the Sol Ti is it can withstand the sort of temperatures you can make with a wood stove. I know... the furnace mode of the Tri-Ti will be difficult to make DIY under a Sol Ti pot.

Another reason to get the Sol Ti vs the Sol, inherent capability to recover from brick mode.

Shipping Confirmation? on 02/07/2012 21:28:40 MST Print View

Has anyone gotten a shipping confirmation for this deal yet? When I ordered it said 5-7 days to ship and it has been ~11 days now. I was curious if they are actually shipping this deal or if I should count on my order being canceled.

No Shipping Confirmation on 02/07/2012 21:35:19 MST Print View

I haven't received any notice from o2gearshop that they've shipped the Sol Ti I ordered... Looks like we might be out of luck.

No shipping confirmation for me either, but the current status of my order is "We have Received your Order," so I've got that going for me.

I sent in an email today asking if they could give me an e.t.a. They said it should ship either today or tomorrow. Since I didn't receive tracking today, maybe it'll ship tomorrow. I assume the 5-7 days is business days. If I get word it shipped I will let you guys know.

Worth the wait. on 02/08/2012 16:34:18 MST Print View

Ordered mine a few days ago. I don't mind waiting because the price blows everyone else away and I don't need the stove soon. I'm a little apprehensive because the deal is almost too good.

didn't work for me on 02/08/2012 19:48:25 MST Print View

I tried to purchase one tonight, but the O2ups15 code didn't work. I did a online chat with them to see if the coupon was expired and was told that it couldn't be used with all manufacturers. Jetboil is one of the restricted manufacturers.

ditto (Re: Re: Shipping Confirmation?) on 02/08/2012 21:11:34 MST Print View

me too, got shipping email says with UPS and in California due in a week.

Glad to see the shipping notice and not some apology, a concern I had with the on/off out-of-stock episodes.

The price isn't the best we've seen in Gear Deals, someone said they got a members-only offer from one dealer and a coupon code then took it down to $90. Ouch.

Still, I think with the issues with the Jetboil, I'd not pay $149+tax in my local store, happy with the $101 we all paid to O2Gearshop, because if I don't like and sell then I need only sell for $101 to break-even and walk away with some wisdom.

I have a number of worries, in my case coming from a Trangia 27 stove, the Jetboil being over 1Kg lighter when factoring fuel for a 5 day trip

- ability to get low heat for simmering
- Ti and burning food at the bottom
- stirring in a tall/wide pot shape (and impact on burning)
- 0.8L being a bit too small, I've stirred foods out of a 1L pot
- fuel rationing, not knowing how much fuel left, rationing too little vs too much
- stability of the stack when stirring

I have to re-learn my cooking habits but some of these issues are core to the Jetboil Sol Ti.

Note the Jetboil does one thing well, boil water fast, hence its name, the Sol Ti just takes it into a lighter zone where it wins more of the BPL arguments.

Received my Shipping Notice on 02/09/2012 09:43:55 MST Print View

Received my shipping confirmation last night, but no tracking number... Oh well, as long as it's on the way.

Nigel, couldn't agree with you more. I was on the fence with the Sol Ti, but at that price I feel confident that I can get my money back if it doesn't work out. $100 is a great deal!

Please let us know what you guys think of it. I can still find it for $115 or so. Probably wont need it this year but...

obviously reviews won't be in the geardeals forums....

So if you want to get the best price then, as someone from the UK now in USA, who is beginning to guy gear in USA, from trawling this forum seems the best approach is subscribe to many of the outdoors online shops to get member specials and keep an eye on BPL geardeal forums.

There was a deal for the Sol Ti for $90 applying all of the above.

Another offer will be along in a few months and if you're ambivalent about the Sol Ti, patience will find the deal again eventually.
