I'm taking a group of troubled youths out for several trips this spring and summer to introduce them to backpacking. I've acquired much of the used gear here on BPL, as well as MYOG for all the quilts. This will hopefully be a great experience for kids who have never been out of the city, introducing them to the wilderness and UL.

I have three giants in the group! I'm looking for used trail runners or similar shoes/boots.

I have three pairs of new balance mt570 14 2Es in my closet with the tags still. Would a pair work for the size 14 kid?

I think I have a pair of Montrails that are 12 1/2 D.

I'm new to the BPL community and absolutely humbled by the outreach. When I posted this today, I wasn't really expecting much response. I now know I've found a truly special community!

My desire is to help out some kids that live in a terrible environments, show them some love and let them experience the world outside of their 'concrete jungle'. These are good kids that are victims of their circumstance.

I’m financing this myself with a little help from our church. I’m just trying to expose these kids to choices other than crack and gangs. They’re not in trouble with the law yet; however their environment is ugly. Most are from single mother homes. Our main mission for the past years has been meeting their very basic needs – food.

None of these boys has ever been out of the city, let alone in the woods. It should be interesting. Being into UL, I want to put light packs on the boys as I don’t want to make this ‘work’ for them and turn them off.
