I'm currently using Some thin synthetic sock liners @ .85 oz per pair.
They work great, except they don't wick very well, and they get super stinky.

Are there any better alternatives I should be considering?

Christopher, are you planning to use the liner as a sock only, inside a sock, and for what conditions.

When I used to wear leather boots, I used a liner. With trail runners, not needed. Some times I use a liner for a sock only. Plain nylon dress socks work fine too. For winter a liner.

Don't know if they are still available, but I have about 6 pairs of REI silk liners, which I bought a very long time ago. I have others too, but the silk ones are my absolute favorites.

none :) I agree w/ Nick w/ trail runners (even light boots) a good pair of wool socks (Darn Tough for me) is all I need- this was after a decade or two of always using two pairs of socks

I use them with defeet woolie boolies to prevent blisters for 3 season use.
So I guess I'm just hoping for .5 oz anti stink wicking liners....maybe I'm dreaming though.

that was the reason I used liners for so long, to prevent blisters- I took the advice here and tried a quality wool sock w/ no liner, I haven't had a blister one since- of course ymmv :)

What kind of sock do you use?

I use their Darn Tough 1/4 cushion http://darntough.com/hike-trek-1401.html, they make a wide array of other socks, but for me those have worked the best

I bought a few pairs of Merino wool socks in NZ and one pair with possum fur, apparently, the warmest fur possible in socks (plus it helps with NZ's pest problem). I still use a water&wind-resistant liner, with the Sugoi resistor socks, which are ultra-light and fit over any thickness of wool sock, due to stretch fabric. They are perfect and now I use them over the old-fashioned over-shoe bootie for cycling.

The REI Polypro liner sock was my favorite. Mostly because they wear like iron. I haven't noticed much of a difference in the wicking of my liner socks, but all I wear is two pairs of liner socks. Unfortunately I can't find the Polypro sock in the REI site...

in general, i dig thin socks
(most of the sock liners are too thick for my liking)
i wear them all winter for foot travel and during hockey
they don't crimp and don't crimp my style
and suprisingly are quite durable
in fall they double as superlightweight "gloves"
that easily stash in pockets.
