I have the little wifey and our 3 ankle-biters sit outside and hold the gylines while yours truly gets some much-needed shut-eye. Don't worry, I sllow them to dress in warm clothes. Well, fairly warm. Sure, there is a lot of griping and complaining, but I've only lost 2 ankle-biters in all my years.

I carry snow stakes.

But if conditions are right and I can find enough wood (around the bases of trees if the base is not too deep, etc.) a great trick is to use sticks as deadman anchors. By using a taughtline hitch (or something similar) you can remove just your guyline from the snow if everything freezes solid, leaving the sticks behind. It's saved me a lot of hassle by not having to use an axe/shovel to chop out frozen anchors in the morning.

Please note the enclosed back yard and total absence of wind in the photo.

Got me. Note also that the tent door is undisturbed and I am taking the picture - having just barely managed to get up off my warm couch.
