I recall hearing somewhere, there are two skills women need to learn to become long distance hikers:

1) launch snot rockets
2) pee with their pack on

I've known quite a few ladies who could pee without removing their pants or pack. A majority were long distance hikers though...

There's something perverse about a bunch of guys having a Peeing contest over the subject of women Peeing! ;^)

Not ragging on Doug here (even though that seems to be a popular winter sport;-)but I've never understood the purpose of reporting the weight of a shelter without also reporting lines and/or stakes needed to support it. OK, it IS possible to get by without stakes sometimes but I wonder what % of us routinely do that.

It seems to me because there are a lot of different stakes that you can use, plus combinations of stakes for different conditions. So you would need to specify the type and number of stakes you were using each time. Also people use different weights of line. The shelter though remains std.

No ragging perceived. To answer your question, people use different stakes and different guy lines, so a combined weight for me isn't necessarily meaningful for someone else, whereas the basic weight of just the tarp is meaningful to everyone, IMO.
