MLD eVent mitts, any impressions yet? on 01/20/2007 20:27:39 MST Print View

So has anyone that ordered the MLD eVent mitts gotten the chance to test them out yet? I really wanted to get some, but decided I didn't really need them. I was wondering if anyone could offer their impressions since I was very intrigued by them.

I was considering these but decided to wait and now it's a classic case of "you snooze you lose" because you can't order them now. :)

Hey guys,
I received my pair a few days before Christmas, but had to size up from S/M to M/L, so I was waiting to post a review. I did get a chance to tinker with them for about a week however, and have pretty much made up my mind that they are a solid product, so I went ahead and posted a reader review.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask if Ive left anything out.

edit: oops, hyperlink function not working for me today.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for checking in on this. I read your review with much interest. What were/are the weight of your mitts?

I hope that Ron will make them available again shortly. With so much eVENT gear that I like so much in my possesion, I would like to add these to my kit as well.

Rich

Ah, a cardinal sin... I forgot to weigh them before sending them back, and I've yet to receive the new ones. They should come any day now - I'll edit my review then. For what its worth, MLD seems to make an honest effort to quote accurate weights.

Mine are in the mail (an order before Christmas) and I chatted with Ron. He will have them in both Yellow and now Black as well. He told me he won't be opening up shop until mid-February.

Mountain Laurel Designs eVENT Rain Mitts: S/M 0.9 oz/pair; L/XL 1.1 oz/pair. They're well made, of course. IMHO the size S/M is closer to a size M and the size L/XL is closer to a size L. My hands are somewhere between M and L. I can just fit my REI size M light mittens in the size S/M (liner gloves fit fine) and my OR size M fleece liner mitts and OR size M PL 150 gloves in the size L/XL. I can't fit any thick insulated gloves in the size L/XL, including REI Ridgecrest size S (which is actually a fairly large glove).

Great Mitts! on 01/22/2007 09:32:58 MST Print View

I've got a pair of Large mitts and they work great. I've taken them in the rain a few times and they are very rain-proof, but breathable enough to let moisture (from adjusting hats, pants, shoes, etc.) escape. In 40 degree temp's the gloves alone are enough to keep my hands warm. They easily accomodate my light fleece liner gloves and my OR fleece mitts. Overall, a very functional piece of equipment.

mld gloves on 01/22/2007 10:41:09 MST Print View

I've got 3 weeks of use on mine now. They are great as a shell, but I'm finding that i get some water accumulation in them. I thought maybe it was leaking at the cuffs, my fault, but i think it may be due to the pressure of my hiking poles onb the palms. In any case, they still keep my hands warm, the wind off and mostly dry, so a good buy.

MLD Rain Mitts on 01/22/2007 15:19:41 MST Print View

Hi All.
We should be back online for orders in the first week, maybe the second, of Feburary. Some products will come online later in Feb. The Mitts will be on there with the first lot.
The new mitts will ship with a .5oz tube of tube or McNett Seam grip for user seam sealing and seam strengthening. (Should require no more than half the tube for full sealing.)
The mitts do have a very clean design to minimize seams. I looked at adding two more seams around the thumb area to make it more ergo and eliminate the very small bunching on the top outside of the thumb but decided that fewer seams was way stronger with the light material. (Currently has only two seams with the palm one closer to the wrist for less seam abrasion.)
The weights of the final production ones on my scale have been very consistant with the S/M size at about .85oz/26gms and the LG/XLG at .9oz/28gms
Note the new Zip pack, sub 10oz, in my avatar...
