Climashield Apex vs. Primaloft One? on 01/09/2012 15:00:22 MST Print View

There have been some discussions here saying that Climashield Apex and Primaloft One are both quite good and very close in performance. However recently a major industry player advised me however that Apex is "far better for a quilt".

Can anyone explain why this might be so?

The reason I'm trying to compare the two is that the Hill People Gear serape is a pretty impressive item, but it uses Primaloft Fusion (domestic equivalent of Primaloft One) instead of Apex.

Climashield requires less stabilization and seems to be better suited to larger panels (like quilts). PL1 has a better drape but requires more quilting. That's my subjective opinion.

Primaloft One has a clo/oz/yd2 = 0.92 according to

Apex = 0.82 according to

Primaloft One will weigh a little less for the same warmth. You also have the weight of the fabric on both sides which is the same for both.

like Chris said - Apex less quilting, just around the edges according to what people have said on this site, One - 3 inch spacing in both directions for under 100 gm/m2 (4.25 oz/yd2), 6 inch spacing for heavier, according to primaloft

I have heard quite often that primaloft degrades fast.
