OK, I have noooooo idea where this is going to go but I thought it might be fun to see what happens.

I'm designating this thread as a "positive comments only" thread. You can only add positive comments to my post.

My most optimistic self sees this post as a small ember that, when fanned by positive comments, turns into a roaring fire that warms the earth in a postive way.

(This idea is forming as I write, by the way.)

To add some substance to this thread I will start things out by saying:

I feed and like hummingbirds. It makes me feel good when they drink from the feeder. I like the sound they make. It reminds me of my cat purring.

I already feel like making a negative comment about my own post.........but I'm not going to.

The universal truth I found on my long distance trail hikes over the past 3 years was the kindness of strangers everywhere.
A small quote comes to mind from Joseph Campbell: "Where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves. Where we had thought to travel outward, we come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world."
This quote is for me the heart of what it means to let go and follow my bliss.
Open up.. slay the ego.. become vulnerable.. and be truly alive.
That path vitalizes a person.
The influence of a vital person vitalizes others.
It's like you are on this ivisible track and you meet the right people at the right time, at the right place.
The landscape is fantastic, and the variety and character of the people you meet match and then exceed the landscape.
This is why I hike.

I have found politeness, friendliness, personal security and the security of one's possessions to increase dramatically as the distance from the "civilization" increases. Everything I've ever loaned on the trail has been returned including a package addressed to "The Lassen Sock Man" at a business I'd mentioned I'd once worked at.

Helpfulness increases exponentially with distance from the road.

A wet, cold puppy nose warms the heart faster than anything else on earth.

I love the rain... it makes my cup go from half-full to potentially full-to-overflowing. And it is a good thing I love the rain because.........

I would venture a step further and posit that said factors increase in direct proportion to the cube of the distance of the trail. ;0)

The power of positive thinking. We were dry as a bone. Can't say the same for the poor sods down in the valley though. They were taking a proper hosing.

Or, as the old philosopher once observed: Sometimes you get the rainbow, sometimes you get the rain. ;=)

Here's a positive glimpse into our lives here. Hopefully it will make you all smile... this is my son at age 4 cornering me on the deck above. His Dad had the hose and was spraying me with water from behind. The ice pieces on the grass are from a cooler that I dumped down my husband Bryan's back (which started the whole battle). Too funny. Such an enjoyable way to cool off on a hot summer day.



Kids have a way of bringing out an adult's inner child and sense of wonder.

PS I dried the camera out on my food dehydrator for 24 hours... it still works well.
