The universal truth I found on my long distance trail hikes over the past 3 years was the kindness of strangers everywhere. A small quote comes to mind from Joseph Campbell: "Where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves. Where we had thought to travel outward, we come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world." This quote is for me the heart of what it means to let go and follow my bliss. Open up.. slay the ego.. become vulnerable.. and be truly alive. That path vitalizes a person. The influence of a vital person vitalizes others. It's like you are on this ivisible track and you meet the right people at the right time, at the right place. The landscape is fantastic, and the variety and character of the people you meet match and then exceed the landscape. This is why I hike.
