"Where is winter though?"

In that magic land it never snows, the rich, fragrant aroma of cowboy coffee permeates the crisp pre dawn air, the water is pure, and bear canisters are but a burr under the fat a$$es of front country rangers. And so these pictures of trips past give me hope and inspiration for the seasons to come in the midst of yet another dreary PNW winter. ;)

Tom, you know it is winter when you have to enter the cabin at the attic window, because the snow is so deep.

Great photo Bob...unfortunately that is NOT from this year :)

Tom, my imagination is running wild. I have already dropped 20 pounds in 2 months and I am starting my conditioning...this year will be epic!

Good job, Ken! I'm betting that 2012 will see you up in Kern country. One thing I can guarantee: You won't regret all the hard work. :)

"Tom, that very top photo, is that The Great Western Divide??"

That is the Kaweah Peaks Ridge, Ken. Technically it is a spur of The Great Western Divide, but I have always considered it an integral part of The Divide for trip planning purposes.

"I fill like I am at my home-court."

Me, too, Jay. I spent 13 years in the Bay Area back in the 70's-80's. During that time I came to know this very special part of the Sierra and love it deeply. Even though I have lived in Seattle for the past 26 years I still consider the southern Sierra my "home court", and always will.
