Thank you, Chad, for thinking about your father and his love for BPL. He taught the rest of us a ton through poignant gear and life reflections. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear about George, I always appreciated him bringing us back to reality-

One of my favorite posts from George:

>Science? My guess is that there is none.

So, why switch?

A combination of insanity and pure joy.<

My thoughts and prays are with his family

I was really looking forward to meeting George this April. Like many folks on this site, even having not met them in person, you feel like you know them. George will certainly be missed here.

My deepest condolences to Chad and his family.

Like most here, I never had the opportunity to meet George in person. But his insightful and often humorous posts and comments always allowed the community to feel a sense of connection with him. Man, I bet everyone here can remember at least one of George's lighthearted avatars...or his distinctive thumb's up. Chad, your father was truly a gentleman--one we will always remember and miss greatly.

Mike said above: "Like many folks on this site, even having not met them in person, you feel like you know them." This is one of the strengths of the internet, building communities where there couldn't easily be one, and George certainly added to this community. I can't pretend to have known George but he did seem to have an easy wit and dry humor that made his posts so interesting.

This is sad news and my thoughts are also with George's family.

I had to dig out where I had originally found this:

>>In response to a comment concerning advanced age and hiking, "Better to wear out than to rust out", George simply replied, "AMEN, My Brothers!"<<

My thoughts and prayers are fully extended to his friends and family.

My condolences to Chad and all of George's family and friends.

George's light heated yet thoughtful contributions to this site always uplifted me and make a fitting epitaph for a true iconoclast.

From George's last contribution to 'the carbon flame war'

"One last tangent, on a recent backpack, I was fortunate to experience some incredible night skies. I wonder how many humans really know what the night sky looks like without all the light pollution.

It is all there for us to see and hear if we choose to look and listen beyond the noise and light and 'science' pollution of these interesting times." : )

AMEN! to that, brother.

We'll miss you George.

I too, am saddened to hear of George passing and my thoughts turn to Chad and the rest of the family and friends.

Sunset and evening star
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

In April I do my first race and I'll be running it for George. He was an inspiration to me and always had very kind words of encouragement.

What a terrible surprise! :(

My condolence to Chad and the family.

Rest in peace, George, although I wouldn't be surprised at all if you are already hiking away, exploring and enjoying totally new trails!

The last couple months of the year got really busy for me, so I haven't been around. So sorry to see this news. I really enjoyed reading his postings. My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
