would it be possible to have the email received for watched threads have a link to the new post instead of the first page of the thread? one less step and a bit less loading of data required this way.

Unfortunately, there's no way for us to implement this without paying through the nose to the folks who host and maintain our forum software. We do hope to change this in the coming year, and I'm terribly sorry it's taken me so long to respond!
