GGG basic instructions on 02/13/2012 23:20:13 MST Print View

Here is all the really important stuff..

The 4th Annual BPL GGG will be held at Henry Coe State Park February 17-19 2012

Park staff would like us all in the overflow parking area. Please carpool if you can.

Overflow parking area is before the main entrance. There is a trail from the parking area that will take you right to the park HQ.
Parking rates are $8 per day.

Pay at the HQ and then park.

If you get to the overflow lot before me and it looks locked. It is not locked, just lift the chain up.

Paying for parking. Here's how.
Drive up towards the park headquarters. You will see a sign on your left for self registration or visitor center open.
If the visitor center is open, pay there.
When the visitor center is closed you will be able to self register at the iron ranger by the afore mentioned sign.
If paying by check, please include your drivers license number and your plate number on the check(in state only)

Information about the park can be found here.

Backcountry Group sites at Manzanita Point #9 and 10

These are the same spots we had in January 2011.

We will(weather permitting) have vehicle support to haul in wood and water

Speaking of weather put in Morgan Hill, CA

Average temps for this weekend are lows around 40 and highs around 60

Please help defer costs of the GGG reservations and incidentals Paypal of funds would be greatly appreciated.

Can't wait. I am thankful for a short hike in and plan on a couple comfy 12 hour sleep nights:) This could be the most physically beat that I have been in years.
I am also looking forward to spending time with a fun group of people.

As far as carpooling, I will be leaving Santa Cruz after work at 2:30 on Friday, if anyone would like a ride. I plan on heading back on Sunday, midday perhaps?

Ken and all.

I'm currently in the midst of an unexpected, and very serious, family emergency. There is a possibility that I won't be able to join all of you there. Ken, I know this is the last day I'll be able to communicate with you, so I want to give you a heads-up. If I don't make it to the GGG, I also want to take this opportunity to say a public thanks for all of the effort you've put into making this event happen.

I'm hopeful that things will stabilize to the point that I will be able to show up for all (or even part) of the event. If not, have a BLAST!

What is the plan for having things brought in via the 2 support vehicles?

I have two Costco Sized boxes of Duraflame logs that I am contributing.

I will be coming in on Friday afternoon, so it is possible that you might already be at the campsite.

Will there be a particular time that people who have things to contribute like water or firewood should meet the support vehicles?

Park staff have been wonderful. We can drive in anytime between noon and dusk. We'll work out the logistics. I plan on hiking back out to hike back in with some of you.

@Diana, Fingers crossed!

Friday night arrivals on 02/15/2012 22:08:50 MST Print View

Jack -- will not be carpooling with us as he has plans for a longer hike after the event. My car is now +2, my wife and a traditional backpacker will be joining us. Are there any restrictions on when we arrive Friday night at the overflow lot? It will likely be around 7 or 8, we plan to hike in after dark.

No restrictions. If the gate looks locked, it most likely is not. I was instructed just to lift off the chain, and let ourselves in.

Is there a time Saturday morning that we should meet a vehicle if we have something we want hauled in? I was thinking about bringing a number of stoves to have on display. I'd have them in a plastic storage bin. And maybe a mid-sized ice chest with a few things in it for a wood-fire cooking demo if there's room.

Adventures In Stoving

P.S. If there's a particular stove anyone is dying to see, let me know and I'll see if I have one (and if it will fit in the box). :)

Hi, from what the website says, once a support vehicle gets to the campsite they cannot go back and forth to the trailhead. My suggestion would be to bring a few of your prized stoves and then wait until Sunday at the swap meet in the parking lot to show off your stoves

Well today is the official start to the annual GGG Weekend!
What started out as 13-15 individuals has blossomed into nearly 100 participants. We have hikers flying in and traveling by car far and wide to attend. Please take a moment and thank Ken for all of his hard work on coordinating this event for 2012.

I should be at the trailhead solo around 4 today if anyone needs or wants a hiking partner.

Also there are a few LOUD snorers here this weekend. Jack Elliot and myself. Be forewarned
