Come on Christmas! on 11/01/2011 13:00:33 MDT Print View

Me being a poor man raising a family, I have to wait for Christmas to get the big ($) items from parents who are through raising kids and have a liitle extra to give.

So yesterday my parents ordered me a enLightened RevelationX quilt for me to take my plunge into the quilt world! Dang the anticipation! I feel like I'm 5 again hoping for my first BB gun to be under the tree!

Anybody else counting down the days til Christmas along with the kids for a particular piece of gear?

I'm with you Craig, but that would only happen for me if Santa were real!

I'd be happy with just the time and money. And it does not need to be that much money either. Gear I got. I want to use it.

I'd like a trail similar to the JMT that starts at my front door and ends at my back door.

I could definitely use a new pair of running shorts, mine all smell like bacon and tostadas.

My Hubby has promised me a new Mont Bell jacket for my Christmas. I'm going with the Alpine Light :D My mom, dad and sister just send money since we live so far apart and depending on how much I get, my list goes like this: 1. Black Rock Down Hat 2. Hammock Underquilt 3. New Tarp. For some reason my in laws don't like buying me backpacking stuff. Still don't know why, but I usually get a gift card to REI which I'm personally hoping for enough to get new Patagonia or Smart Wool.

I love a backpacking Christmas!!

I feel your pain Adam! Although I bring my kids over to my parents place and they end up with the presents rather than me. ;) Instead of spending on gear this Xmas I've decided to buy a used sewing machine so I can make it. Hopefully that goes well.

I don't even care much about the plane tickets and gas money, I just want the time. Sigh.

I always take the last two weeks of December off. We take our tent trailer to Lake Mead for two weeks and camp out. I usually do a multi-day solo trip between Christmas and New Years. I have millions of acres of land in Nevada all to myself. Don't need any new gear to do it :)

I think it has been so many years since I've had a Christmas list....it's been all about making/getting stuff for others. But I am making myself something very special and it will be done by Christmas. I am making an Alpaca blanket with undied wool and a very tight knit. It's hundreds of dollars of yarn and about 150 hours of work. . Can't wait to sleep under it.

Don't wear those in bear country Eugene.

I'm in the midst of building up a Salsa Mukluk, and I ought to have the funds to have it rolling before Christmas. That should take care of the gear jones for a while.

As for the holiday itself, last night my wife and I reserved a forest service cabin back in the Bob Marshall for four days. 4 miles from the end of the plowed road. Skiing during the day, cooking over the woodstove by night.
