WTB Trekking / Hiking Poles -- adjustable or fixed 120 or 125cm on 10/20/2011 14:42:32 MDT Print View

After knee surgery last year, I picked up a cheap ($16 Mountainsmith), heavy (14oz EACH pole) pair of trekking poles to see if they were worth it. After a couple of trips with them, I'm sold on poles for every trip, and now I just need something lighter weight.

I'm not super picky, but I've determined that fixed would be fine in either a 120 or 125cm length, or adjustable would work equally well. In a perfect world, I'd like a pair of TiGoat, LT3/4 or Yana carbon fiber poles, but I don't expect any of those to be in my price range.

I know I can pick up middle-of-the-road (~8oz each) Komperdell poles for ~$40 on sale at STP (coupons stack to make almost any of the poles there ~60%+ off), but I'd rather go with something a little lighter, if it's available. I've used some Komperdell Southern Cross poles (8.5oz/each), and did fine with them, so that's my fall back plan.

The only lighter weight poles I've tried are the Camp Xenon 4 (4.3 oz each), but they felt far too flexy/flimsy to keep.

So please let me know what you've got. Thanks.

Have GG LiteTreks 125 cm fixed on 10/20/2011 15:29:34 MDT Print View

I have an almost new spare pair of Gossamer Gear LiteTrek trekking poles, 125 cm, that I would part with (because I have another pair of used LT2's that I broke a tip on but was able to repair/replace and also LT4's). These do not have the new spiral wrap feature that GG puts on the LT3's; I think they are LT2's, but honestly not sure. How about $60 plus actual shipping, or I'll gamble and agree to $72 shipped? I still have the original shipping tube from GG and can use that to ship them to you. The stix are light, but the protective tube is not.

Robert,
The LiteTreks sound great, but after thinking more about it, I think I'm going to need to revise my post and hold out for poles that (even if a fixed length) are collapsable for airline travel.

The LiteTreks sound amazing from everything I've read, and the weight is perfect, but I don't think I can justify having a pair of poles that I can't easily travel with on a plane.

Thank you very much for your offer. I'm glad you've got someone lined up already who will put them to good use.
