Low, wool, trekking socks? on 10/12/2011 17:29:42 MDT Print View

Does anyone make a low, wool trekking sock similar to the regular length Trekking sock Smartwool makes? Those have been working for me, but was thinking of trying to get a low sock. I guess my lower legs will get a little scratched then. I've seen some lower socks, but not in the thickness the trekking sock comes in.

I have some low Smartwool socks with a short cuff. They are women's, but there are similar in men's.

They are in various thicknesses; I've found that you really have to look at them in the store.

Some of the Darn Tough socks come with shorter cuffs.

Unless you have a very large foot, you could probably wear women's large socks, where there is an even larger selection of socks with short cuffs.

I'm glad you asked this and hope someone has some pointers. I like low socks in the summer, but need pretty thick ones to make up for my bony feet. (It seems to me that with 99% of the socks I've seen, the thickness is pretty closely correlated with the length---why?)

All I see for women are a light weight sock, nothing thick like Smartwool's trekking sock which I use now.
