Classic example of someone taking something out of context.

jesus shouldve been packing on 09/23/2011 07:39:37 MDT Print View

He was pretty SUL for his time. Multi purpose robe and all that lightweight never-ending fish/bread

But maybe if Jesus had been carrying a s&w 317 airweight model he would still be around today, he could have told all those Roman soldiers to F off.

Jesus was a hippie (long hair, robes, sandals) didn't seem to work and told stories all day. Had rich women to support him and rub oil on his feet at the end of a hard day of walking.

Jesus would be slackpacking. Day pack only.

OTOH, water fords would be wicked easy with that whole "walk on water" thing he has going.
And boulders blocking the trail? They'd move for him, too (but only after three days)

He would carry the same equipment he carried way back then. Every once in awhile we have Hari Krishna monks, Self-Realization Fellowship monks,Catholic monks, Yoga people,Kook's walking, traveling, camping down highway 101 walking in traditional garb on a quest or trip and camping in traditional garb from 100's to a 1000 years ago. Getting along fine with out all the specialized creature comforts most of us carry now days.

Some time's I will be watching old western movies about native american Indians and I go to Local powwow's on their reservations read the history about them in books and most native americans carried just the clothes on their backs and satchel they slept on the ground.
Then you have the Amish,Nomadic tribes of Afghanistan, Jordan living like their ancestors a couple 100 years before their time are perfectly happy with their life style.

I think maybe way we backpack and just over doing it we have become sissified/smart in modern times compared to our ancestors. But it is the only way we can achieve our goal to hike farther and longer and faster to see everything before our vacation is over to get back to our job.

I say unto ye:

Jesus was not an ultralighter because he carried upon his back the weight of our sins.

So sayeth the Lord. Go now in peace.

Santa Claus on 09/23/2011 21:02:55 MDT Print View

Santa was not a backpacker. He had a very tricked out sled pulled by eight tiny reindeer. Except for one foggy Christmas Eve.....

The Easter Bunny on the other hand. Total trekker. All his gear is in pastel, however.

Probably buys it closeout at Sierra Trading Post.

Moses has the whole desert hiking thing. Don't trust his navigation skills, however. 40 years in the desert????? Oy vey. Maybe if had a GPS?

Mohamed? He brings the mountain to him. Peak bagger only.

Really? What would cause you to believe Jesus had long hair? Everything I know about the guy would say the exact opposite.

According to the Apostle Paul at 1 Cor 11 :
Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory?
From that some deduce that the Jesus he saw "on the road to Damascus" would not have had long hair.
But of course there is the problem with Jesus not having been recognised after the Resurrection on three different occasions, including the problematic Luke 24:13-35. That one excludes long distance but suggests that Jesus adopted a different appearance from the one they knew.
Franco
BTW, that is according to the book...
I am now moving over to Chaff to see if any new gear is coming out.

Yes Franco. That would be a thread of thought in the short hair direction. After reading the Bible straight through once, I never found any indication that would suggest Jesus had long hair, blue eyes, a chiseled nose, or lilly white skin as the past artist renditions would show. He was a Jew and probably looked like any other Jewish man during that period of time.
