THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE & WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE NEED YOUR HELP
On June 27, 2011 the U.S. Forest Service and the West Virginia State Police began an extensive search and rescue operation within the Cranberry Wilderness for an overdue hiker. The hiker was reported missing on June 12, 2011 in Virginia and his vehicle was found at the Big Beechy trailhead off of the Highland Scenic Highway on June 27, 2011. A note was found inside the vehicle stating that the hiker entered the Cranberry Wilderness on May 23, 2011 and intended to exit on May 27, 2011. The note indicated that the hiker intended to hike to “Three Forks and back with loops”. Searchers walked every trail and checked all known primitive campsites within the Cranberry Wilderness. No sign or clues as to the hiker’s whereabouts were found. Law Enforcement Officials are asking every hiker to be on the lookout for anything that may lead investigators to help close this case. If you see or find anything that you may believe might be a clue such as an abandoned tent, backpack or camping equipment please photograph it and if you have a GPS system please record the Lat/Long and report your discovery to either;
