This is a complete newbie question, but here you go. How are you supposed to use Easton Aluminum Nail Stakes? Do you just slip them through whatever loop is on your tent or tarp? If so, wouldn't the loop possibly slip off easily? Or do you need to actually thread your guyline through the head of the stake each time you stake out your shelter?

James
This is how you are meant to use pegs.
peg
With this sort of angle when the guyline is in tension it will push itself downwards , not up.
(normally the stake would be pushed further into the ground only leaving about 1" or so of the yellow part showing)

Yep, I love those Eastons. They don't bend. They stay in the ground without being hard to pull up. And they're lightweight, though I think I'd still use 'em if they weighed a half pound each. :)

Put them into the ground at about a 30 degree angle like Franco's picture.
Hold onto the gold shaft with your fingers and give the stake a bit a wiggle before pulling it from the ground. NEVER hit the head from the side to loosen it or the head will break off... I've seen this happen.
The holding power of these stakes is really amazing.
